Rockit Burger Bar

Few foods are as beloved as the all-American hamburger. There are so many ways to make it your own, from topping it with cheese to even using doughnuts as buns! Before you bite into your next burger, take a look at our top Chicago favorites, including a few with unique twists you won’t want to miss.

River Roast Blues Burger

Situated right on the Chicago River with stunning views of the water and downtown, River Roast {315 North LaSalle Drive, Chicago; 312.822.0100} is a lively social house from James Beard award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano and Executive Chef John Hogan. Meat, fish, and veggies are carved table-side, perfect for sharing, but you’ll want to keep the Blues Burger all for yourself, crafted with prime chuck and brisket, caramelized onions, Hook’s Blue Cheese, and smoked ketchup, served on a brioche bun. Pair it with one of their two slow drip infusion cocktail towers or a Midwestern beer for a classic American meal.

Rockit Burger Bar Mac & Cheese Attack

As the name implies, these people know their burgers. Rockit Burger Bar {3700 North Clark Street, Chicago; 773.645.4400} sits in the heart of Wrigleyville, serving a wide range of burgers that anyone would enjoy. While there are options like the Bacon Grilled Cheese Patty Melt, the Caprese Burger or the Truffle Mushroom Burger, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the Mac & Cheese Attack, a quarter pound black Angus patty burger sandwiched between two fried mac and cheese buns, topped with lettuce, tomato, scallions, and Sriracha ketchup. We dare you to say no.

Café Spiaggia Café Burger

You might not automatically think of an Italian spot for your go-to burger, but Cafe Spiaggia {980 North Michigan Avenue, 2nd Floor, Chicago; 312.280.2750} will change all of that. Their Café Burger, made with crispy Parmigiano, onion, and arugula on a brioche bun, is a delightful twist on a classic cheeseburger. With great views of Michigan Avenue, Cafe Spiaggia is perfect for an elevated luncheon, burgers included.

WHISK Ron Swanson Burger

If the infamous manly man Ron Swanson puts his name to a burger, you know it means business. At WHISK {2018 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago; 773.252.9060}, the Ron Swanson Burger comes as an eight-ounce grass-fed patty wrapped in bacon, doused in bacon-mayo. If that’s not enough goodness, you can also make it “Breakfast Style” and replace the bun with french toast and add scrambled eggs and chorizo. Like we said, they’re not messing around.

MAD Social MAD Burger

The West Loop is quickly becoming the spot to get great Chicago eats, and though MAD Social {1140 West Madison Street, Chicago; 312.243.2097} is a relatively new addition, they should definitely be on your list. Their two-hand signature MAD Burger is a behemoth of aged cheddar, Cajun onion strings, housemade mayonnaise, and pickles. From the first bite to the last, you won’t be able to put it down.

Prime & Provisions Prime Burger

When a steakhouse makes a burger, you better wear your stretchy pants. The Prime Burger from Prime & Provisions {222 North LaSalle Drive, Chicago; 312.726.7777} is an 8-ounce all-natural dry-aged patty, made of 100% USDA Prime all-natural chuck and brisket. Cooked under a 1,100-degree broiler, similar to Prime & Provisions steaks, gives it a flawless charred crust while maintaining a juicy interior. The burger is topped off with Sharp Wisconsin American Cheese, beefsteak tomato, house pickled onions and kosher dill pickle, all resting between a buttery brioche bun and house made dijonaise served on the side. Top off the patty with a slab of thick cut bacon and/or a farm egg which will equal an excellent touch to the perfected burger.
