It’s National Wine Day! If that’s not a holiday worth celebrating, we don’t know what is! To help you make the most of the holiday, and enjoy the best wine around, we have lined up our top wine destinations. Led by some of the city’s best sommeliers and wine directors, these wine programs should be celebrated all year long…

Maple & Ash {8 West Maple Street, Chicago; 312.944.8888}
We have covered the Mavens & Aficionados program before, but it’s worth bringing up a second time. At Maple & Ash, The Mavens & Aficionados wine club delivers hard-to-find wines right to members’ doorsteps on a quarterly basis, plus gives access to all kinds of Maple & Ash services, like reservations, wine tips, and recommendations from the experts. If you don’t want to commit to a whole club, many of the wines they offer in the club are offered in the restaurant as well. Plus, nothing pairs as well with red wine as a perfect cut of steak.

Texas de Brazil {210 East Upper Illinois Street, Chicago, 312.595.0913}
Wine is an integral part of the dining experience at Texas de Brazil. They’re celebrating the holiday with Happy Hour pricing throughout the day, serving Texas de Brazil’s private label varietals for just $5 per glass.
“Texas de Brazil varietals were selected to be approachable for diners, and to pair easily with the great selection of grilled meats and salads we offer,” says Rodrigo Davila, the restaurant group’s director of wine and spirits. “Our private label wines bottled by one of South America’s top wine producers are perfect for a toast on this holiday and for any occasion,” he adds. Come in and celebrate with a few glasses!

Italian Village {71 West Monroe Street, Chicago; 312.332.7005}
This Chicago staple, and three-story food destination, houses an award-winning wine cellar, with over 1,100 selections totaling over 20,000 bottles. One of the largest restaurant-based wine cellars in the Midwest, the wine list has received awards from Wine Spectator for 30 consecutive years. Wine Director, Jared Gelband, has given us pairing advice in the past, and he never seems to fail! Pick your favorite menu item and ask for a wine pairing he recommends. You won’t be disappointed.

Formento’s {925 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.690.7295}
There’s nothing quite like sipping wine on a patio, and no one does patio time quite like Chicago. The Formento’s patio is relaxing and celebratory all at once, making it perfect for post-work happy hour or a family dinner. Their summer wine list pairs perfectly with menu items like Squid Ink Chitarra Pasta with lump crab, green chiles, and mint and garlic bread crumbs. Another stand-out that pairs perfectly with your favorite glass of red is Pork Steak with giant white beans, salsa verde, watercress, and basil.
The Press Room {1134 West Washington Boulevard, Chicago; 331.240.1914}
This one should be self-explanatory, given that it’s a wine bar. However, this wine bar is an extra special one. The basement setting has a decidedly European feel, making it great for an intimate date night or a tasting with true vino-lovers. Plus, any place that has such an extensive wine menu, all with such approachable prices, is a complete must-visit for us.
