Dining for a Cause: Seven Chicago Restaurants That Give Back - These Chicago eateries are going the extra mile for their communities

What’s better than supporting a great restaurant? Supporting a great restaurant that supports a great cause. At these altruistic Chicago eateries, you’ll not only be giving back to the community, but enjoying great food while you do it.

1. Blackbird {619 West Randolph Street, Chicago; 312.715.0708}: This modern Chicago landmark and its parent company, One Off Hospitality, have been longtime supporters of community organizations like Pilot Light, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and many others. Most recently, all One Off restaurants offered 25-percent off for all individuals working without pay during the government shutdown.

2. Cupitol {812 Grove Street, Evanston; 847.868.8078}: At Cupitol, their famous frothy Greek cappuccino, the Freddo, is so delicious, you’ll want to buy two. But how many would you buy if we told you this year 50-percent of the drink’s proceeds will go to One Hope United, a children and family services organization? The limit does not exist.

3. Tortoise Supper Club {350 North State Street, Chicago; 312.755.1700}: Supporting a charity is as easy ordering a cocktail at Tortoise Supper Club. As a participant in Cocktail for a Cause, a portion of proceeds from a rotating monthly cocktail go to support The Chicago Lighthouse, which provides services to the city’s disabled and veteran communities. Stop in this month to try out the latest cocktail!

4. The Goddess and Grocer {1649 North Damen Avenue, Chicago; 773.342.3200}: The Goddess and its offspring are passionate community supporters—try out the Best of The Midwest Basket for your next party gift. They also donate un-served food to nonprofit Zero Percent and regularly partner with organizations like Lurie Children’s Hospital and Treehouse Human Society. Honestly, what’s stopping you from buying every meal from them?

5. Moneygun {660 West Lake Street, Chicago; 312.600.0600}: Every month, Moneygun features a new cocktail benefiting Causing a Stir, an organization dedicated to revolutionizing the hospitality industry. Check their Instagram for the newest March cocktail!

7. Sable Kitchen and Bar {505 North State Street, Chicago; 312.755.9704}: No matter how much you spend at this chic hangout in the Hotel Palomar, Sable will round up the bill and donate the difference to a rotating list of local charities.
