Because dad….or mom, or anyone else in the family…all deserves a great steak

There are many types of steak, but the tomahawk might just be the king. A “tomahawk” is a cut of beef ribeye that has 5+ extra inches of rib bone for presentation purposes. It’s called a “tomahawk” cut because the steak’s long bone can look like a single-handed ax. It is not for the faint of heart, or anyone wearing tight pants…but steak lovers will relish the flavor and the challenge. If you’re making Father’s Day dinner plans, or just want a hearty family meal, these are the best places to get a tomahawk right now…

Prime & Provisions {222 North LaSalle Street, Chicago; 312.726.7777}: This steakhouse provides unique offerings, and that doesn’t stop with their tomahawks. Their menu features not a tomahawk steak, but instead, Tomahawk Colorado Lamb Chops served with Merguez spice and currant. If you’re intent upon a steak, the Dry-Aged Bone-In Kansas City Strip is the way to go. On Father’s Day, you can get both of those at dinnertime or indulge in their Sunday brunch buffet with a seafood bar, carving stations and a specialty offering of Aberlour Scotch Whiskey flights for only $22.

Fleming’s Prime

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse {25 East Ohio Street, Chicago; 312.329.9463}: If their Prime Tomahawk isn’t enough of a draw, don’t worry. You can add on Truffle-Poached Lobster or Jumbo Lump Crabmeat to really treat yourself at Fleming’s. Chef Jose has you covered thanks to his focus on new, unexpected textures and flavors.

STK {9 West Kinzie Street, Chicago; 312.340.5636}: 34 ounces of pure deliciousness await with the STK Dry-Aged Tomahawk on your plate. The perfect spot for a date night or really indulgent happy hour, their menu does not mess around.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House {431 North Dearborn Street, Chicago; 312.321.2725}: We love anything that’s prepared and presented table-side! It’s not done often anymore, but it makes such a difference in the meal experience, and Ruth’s Chris hand cuts it’s 40-ounce USDA Prime Bone-In Ribeye right next to you at the table. Your mouth will be watering before it even hits your plate!

GT Prime Steakhouse {707 North Wells Street, Chicago; 312.600.6305}: This steak is a splurge, but it’s worth it. The Australian Wagyu Tomahawk is from the most prime cut of meat, and every bite will be a treat.
