There’s nothing quite like summertime in Chicago, when it’s the perfect time to stroll and enjoy the city’s parks, outdoor art, and beaches. But don’t just stroll— make sure you have a sweet treat to keep you company and make the day that much tastier.
BomboBar {832 West Randolph Street; 312.492.7775}
BomboBar is a cute little window on the side of Bar Siena, serving up bite-sized bombolini (cream-stuffed Italian doughnuts). With a range of temptations to choose from, you’ll be tempted to return again and again to sample them all.
Sweet treats: BomboBar is offering all new treats for summer. Their Bombo Gelato Sandwich is comprised of two bombolini “toasted” in a panini press with gelato in between, and they’re serving Italian Ice in pouches with flavors like Strawberry Kiwi and Coconut. Cold drinks include Cold Brew and Nitro Coffee, Matcha Green Iced Tea, and the cold version of their renowned hot chocolate in flavors like S’mores and Matcha Made in Heaven.

Amorino {838 North State Street; 312.266.7466}
Amorino is a traditional Italian gelato shop. With locations on two continents, it’s easy to understand that they’re doing dessert right. Their gelatos are made using the highest quality, additive-free ingredients, giving authentic flavor to their treats.
Sweet treats: Amorino’s must-try gelato flavors are Amarena (a creamy cherry gelato), Speculoos (a ginger and nutmeg cookie flavor), Inimitable (chocolate hazelnut), and Tiramisù (based on the famous dessert). Amorino also offers gelato desserts in fanciful presentations, like the Macarose, a gelato-filled macaron nestled in gelato “petals” to resemble a flower.

Stan’s Donuts began as a partnership between Stan Berman (owner of the iconic donut shop in Los Angeles) and Rich Labriola (of Labriola Baking company in Chicago). These days, it serves up some of the finest donuts the city has ever tasted.
Sweet treats: The creatively flavored donuts and companion coffee are always on the menu, but Stan’s is launching new frappés this summer. These frozen blended coffee drinks are the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. To boot, they have ice cream sandwiches and custom shakes aplenty.

Primehouse is known as one of Chicago’s top steakhouses, but it probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when thinking of cool summer treats … right? This summer, they’ll hold a weekend freeze-pop extravaganza. From Friday, June 30, to Sunday, July 2, the patio at Primehouse will serve up happy hour pops on Friday and lunchtime pops on Saturday and Sunday.
Sweet treats: The house made freeze-pops will be offered in Strawberry Rosé (Friday happy hour only, $5), Lemon Lime, and Blackberry Creamsicle ($3).
