Shaya avec Nico Osteria on Wednesday
Nico Osteria {1015 North Rush Street; 312.994.7100} is offering a Southern Mediterranean dinner in honor of Chicago hosting the 2016 James Beard Foundation Awards. Collaboration will be at the heart of this one-night-only dinner featuring JBFA Best Chef: Great Lakes finalist Erling Wu-Bower (Nico Osteria), JBFA winner Best: Chef South (Domenica), and finalist Best New Restaurant (Shaya) Alon Shaya, as well as Perry Hendrix (avec) and Leigh Omilinsky (Nico Osteria).
The menu will be comprised of a range of refreshing crudos and fish and meat-forward mains, and will finish with a variety of Southern Mediterranean-inspired sweets. The beverage program will place an emphasis on the best cocktails the Big Easy has to offer, showcasing classics as well as a few inventive riffs.
Cinco de Mayo at El Hefe
The River North favorite El Hefe {15 West Hubbard Street; 312.548.6841} is a great spot to celebrate the holiday. Stay warm (if this horrible weather continues) with Mexican Chicken or Queso Fundido, but make sure to pair whatever you order with one of their legendary 20oz margaritas. From the Salty Chihuahua to the Chicano Loco, there is a marg for every man and woman. Finish it with a Horchata Milkshake topped with cinnamon sugar for an all-around win.
Cinco de Mayo at Taco Joint
Taco Joint will welcome Cinco de Mayo celebrants to their “dos” locations {Lincoln Park and River North; 312.337.8226} for drink specials. Enjoy $5 off all margaritas by the bottle plus a $5 “beer ‘n tequila shot” featuring a can of Modelo Especial with a shot of chilled El Jimador blanco tequila. Pair your Latin libations with Taco Joint’s array of antojitos (street snacks), guacamoles, tacos, tortas, and more until 11pm.
Kentucky Derby at The Frontier
Frontier {1072 North Milwaukee Avenue; 773.772.4322} will celebrate the Kentucky Derby with all-day specials in their all-weather beer garden on May 7, including $7 Maker’s Mark Mint Julep, $7 Maker’s Mark Whiskey Sour, $7 Maker’s Mark Old Fashioned, and a $12 Fried Chicken plate (including sides) by Chef Brian Jupiter.
Derby Day at State and Lake Chicago Tavern
State and Lake Chicago Tavern at theWit {201 North State Street; 312.239.9400} will host a Kentucky Derby celebration that includes food specials such as crispy chicken thighs with mustard slaw, bourbon honey, and pepper vinegar. Drink specials will include Large Format Mint Juleps and Mint Julep. Derby Day attire is recommended and there will be a photo booth with fun Derby-inspired props. Guests are encouraged to enter the Best Dressed Instagram Contest for a chance to wine a $150 Wit gift card.
