Some people think that eating gluten-free is as simple as skipping the bread basket at dinner, but for many people, it’s much more complicated than that. With gluten intolerance on the rise, it is becoming more and more important for restaurants to offer gluten-free menu items and ensure that they can offer delicious dishess that anyone can eat.

In addition to fully gluten-free meals, Chicago restaurants have stepped up to offer gluten-free alternatives to their guests’ favorite dishes, and put new, gluten-free twists on unexpected meals. If you’re living a gluten-free life, here are some of Chicago’s hottest spots that can hook you up right…

  1. Hannah’s Bretzel {multiple locations}: Almost all of their sandwiches can be prepared on gluten free bread! It’s perfect for a quick, gluten-free breakfast or lunch on the go.
  2. Jake Melnick’s {41 East Superior Street, Chicago; 312.266.0400}: Who would have thought that a “corner tap” would have an entire gluten-free menu including wings, barbecue platters, sandwiches, and more?
  3. Beatrix {multiple locations}: They have gluten-free options on all their menus, but definitely ask the staff for any special gluten-free desserts! Their bakery game is oh-so-strong.
  4. Alice & Friends {3518, 5812 North Broadway Street; 773.275.8797}: Sure, this is a vegan kitchen, but they can also cater to gluten-free diners. The staff knows the ingredients to each dish and wants to make veganism accessible to everybody, so you can be sure they’ll find a new, delicious dish that will keep you coming back again and again.
  5. Hubbard Inn {110 West Hubbard Street, Chicago; 312.222.1331}: You might not immediately think of a River North bar as the place to go for gluten-free food, but their Lacquered Duck Breast alone is worth the visit! They also have other gluten-free options, as well as one of the best happy hours around! Win/win!
  6. Brightwok Kitchen {21 East Adams Street, Chicago; 312.583.0729}: Their menu is fully gluten-free, dairy-free, peanut-free, and all of their sauces are vegan. They focus on good, clean food that is pretty to look at and delicious to taste! Who wouldn’t want that?
