The wait is over! This year’s Chicago Gourmet presented by Bon Appétit is finally here and ready to “Rock the Fork” with a celebration of Chicago’s deep-rooted food and music culture. From September 28-30, foodies will descend upon Millennium Park to experience an all star line up of celebrity chefs, live cooking demos, mixology seminars, and, of course, great food from the city’s top restaurants. Here is just a preview of what you can expect to see at this years event:
Chicago Gourmet Grand Tasting {September 29-30, noon-6pm} at Millennium Park
While the star-studded demos and culinary demonstrations are a guaranteed good time, everyone is really there for one reason and one reason only: to eat delicious food. Chicago Gourmet offers a global array of culinary delights from tastebud-tingling eastern bites to barbecue comfort classics. Our top 10 vendors to check out are:
- Arun’s Thai Restaurant: Authentic Thai cuisine from a James Beard Award-winning chef.
- Kamehachi: Long-time Chicago staple doing sushi right.
- Dusek’s Board and Beer: Nothing beats pub grub and nice cold beer on a day in the park.
- Formento’s: Guaranteed delicious Italian classics to keep you energized.
- Rhyme or Reason: American comfort foods and funky cocktails for something familiar.

Bon Appétit Cooking Demos {September 29-30, noon-6pm} at Millennium Park Main Stage
This year’s main stage events celebrate the musical theme by featuring fun competitions, cooking demos from acclaimed chefs, and Stephanie Izard break dancing. Here are the main acts you don’t want to miss:
- Chorizo Cha-Cha Challenge: Chef Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill and Chef Diana Dávila will kick off the festival on September 29.
- Another One Bites the Crust: Lin Brehmer of XRT emcees this pizza battle between Chicago Chefs Jimmy Bannos Sr, John Hogan, and Tony Mantuano.
- Duck Duck Dance: The most anticipated event of the weekend, Stephanie Izard plans to add some extra flare to her cooking demo with her very own dance moves.
Blues, Boos, and Bites {September 27 at 6pm} at River Roast {315 North Lasalle Drive}
For one night only, Chicago chefs John Hogan, Tony Mantuano, Jeff Mauro, Bruce Kalman, and Cedric Harden will switch out their chefs coats for musical instruments to two Chicago cultural pillars: food and blues music.
Hamburger Hop {September 28 at 6pm} at Harris Theatre Rooftop {205 East Randolph Street}
A Chicago Gourmet trademark burger showdown is back this year with a competition soundtrack of throwback jams. Sample burgers and dance to your favorite party hits as chefs compete for the title of best burger in Chicago.
Late Night Gourmet {September 28 at 9pm} at The Underground {56 West Illinois Street}
The official Hamburger Hop after-party takes places at the The Underground this year—the perfect place to dance off all those excess burger calories.
Global StrEATS {September 29 at 7pm} at Harris Theatre Rooftop {205 East Randolph Street}
Street eats from around the world is the focus at this outdoor tasting from Chicago’s top chefs.
Rise & Shine Gourmet {September 30 at 8:30am} at Chicago Athletic Association Hotel {12 South Michigan Ave}
Start the day with a relaxing guided yoga session followed by breakfast bites and morning cocktails at the Chicago Athletic Association.
