The Radler

The first day of fall is just around the corner, and there is no better way to welcome the new season in Chicago than with an Oktoberfest celebration! Breweries and bars from all over the city join in on the festivities by offering up traditional German specialties, like malty beer, classic sausages, and fresh-yeasted pretzels. We’ve created this guide to help you find the perfect place to experience all that Oktoberfest has to offer—lederhosen optional but highly recommended!

Hub 51 {September 22-October 7} at 51 West Hubbard Street

Oktoberfest is getting a two-week long celebration at Hub 51 this year. Guests can relax on the outdoor patio with steins of Off Color Brewing’s Waddle beer alongside passed bites, such as Mini Reubens, Homemade Pretzels with Beer Cheese, Apples Cakes, and more. Hub 51 will also be offering German-inspired specials, like Grilled Brats.

The Radler {September 23, 10am-5pm} at 2375 North Milwaukee Avenue

This Logan Square joint inspired by traditional German beer halls is changing things up this year with their “Brunchtoberfest.” In a partnership with Metropolitan Brewing, The Radler event promises live music, breakfast poutine, and plenty of German beer to go around.

The Radler

 Frontier {September 29 at noon} at 1072 North Milwaukee Avenue

Hit up Frontier’s annual Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, September 29, for live music and an array of all-you-can-eat specials, including homemade Frontier Sausages, Pretzels & Sides, and $6 Oktoberfest beers. Don’t miss the chance to enter the Stein-Holding Competition and win some intriguing prizes.

Fisk & Co. {September 22, 11am-5pm} at 225 North Wabash Avenue

On Saturday, September 22, Fisk & Co, the new Belgian-inspired mussel and beer bar in the loop, will host their original Octoberfisk patio event. Featuring a specialty menu with items like beer cheese bratwursts, schnitzel sandwiches, and seasonal lagers from Goose Island and Hopewell breweries, Fisk & Co. is certainly the place to be for an authentic Oktoberfest experience—even if the name is a little bit different.

The Glunz Tavern

 The Glunz Tavern {1202 North Wells Street, Chicago; 312.642.3001}

This historic German tavern isn’t hosting an official Oktoberfest even this year, but that’s only because any night spent at this authentic eastern European spot feels like an Oktoberfest celebration, no matter the time of year. Stop in any day this fall to sample their selection of traditional German eats, like the hilariously large warm pretzel with beer cheese or Bavarian veal bratwurst, all within the confines of a cozy wood-paneled tavern.

Taco Joint {multiple locations}

Though a taco place might not be your first thought for Oktoberfest, these specials are no joke! Taco Joint in both Lincoln Park and River North will celebrate with “Oktoberfiesta” specials, available from September 22 to October 5. Think German-inspired Jalisco Bratwurst Tacos, plus Revolution Brewing’s Oktoberfest and Maestro Dobel Diamond Tequila. Sign us up!
