Celebrating its 11th anniversary, The Lynn Sage Foundation’s In Good Taste promotion is bringing together more than 175 of Chicago’s restaurants and bars to raise awareness and support for local breast cancer research during the month of October. All these eateries will donate proceeds from select dishes and drinks to help find a cure for breast cancer. You can also add donations right to your bill.
Over the last 11 years, what began as 40 local restaurants has expanded to the nearly 200 that are participating this year. In Good Taste has also expanded to reach other cities, including St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis. All proceeds from In Good Taste will benefit the Lynn Sage Scholars Program which funds some of the country’s most promising researchers in the field of breast cancer. To date, The Lynn Sage Foundation has invested more than $1.6 million to support Chicago research that is making a huge difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Lynn Sage Foundation Founder Laura Sage tells us more about the foundation, gives us her “must-try” list of specials, and lets us know how much difference a simple night out can make…
DiningOut: What are some things about the foundation that people should know?
Sage: The foundation is named in honor of our mom, Lynn Sage, but we honor all moms, dads, friends, and family as we raise funds to ensure better outcomes for breast cancer patients. To make the greatest impact, we are singularly focused on funding brilliant, young researchers with new ideas in the fight against breast cancer.
How has the Chicago food community come together for this?
The generosity of the Chicago restaurant community is boundless and overwhelming. It’s such a generous and creative group that we have gotten to know and love over the past 11 years. Without their support, Chicago’s In Good Taste couldn’t exist and continue to thrive.
What are some of your favorite food picks for this year?
There are so many delicious dishes it’s hard to pick! I’d start with the Tuna Tagliata at Aba, Pink Pasta Pillows at Club Lucky, Raspberry Charlotte at Francesca’s, and Prickly Pear Macaron at Allium. I love the No. 5 Cocktail at Bar Siena and Classic Cosmopolitan at Gibsons, too. And of course, I can’t resist a Pink Signature Tahitian Vanilla Ice Donut at Firecakes for a morning treat.
Moving forward, how can people stay involved?
People can stay involved by patronizing one of the almost 200 restaurants that support The Lynn Sage Foundation. Visit these delicious restaurants during October (and all year round!) and let them know why you are there. Your words of encouragement and patronage make a big difference and are hugely appreciated.
Why is this cause so important to you, and for all women?
Being involved with The Lynn Sage Foundation allows me keep my mom’s memory alive in a constructive way. I also view it as an insurance policy and banking some good karma. Not a day goes by that I don’t worry about someone with breast cancer or getting breast cancer. I can sleep at night knowing I’m doing my best to help the cause.
We definitely recommend checking out these In Good Taste specials…
- Eat Purely’s seasonal specials for the month: With salads, pastas and more changing every day, you will never run out of delicious dishes! They’re delivered right to your home, and all month long, Eat Purely will be donating 5 percent of sales to The Lynn Sage Foundation.
-
Jake Melnick’s Corner Tap has a special pink koozie for just $1. Proceeds from the koozie go toward the Lynn Sage Foundation, and they pair super well with a beer and chicken wing dinner.
-
Beatrix has Pink Ribbon Sugar Cookies for $2.95 that are great for snacks, dessert, or even a sweet breakfast treat. One dollar from every cookie sold will be donated to The Lynn Sage Foundation.
-
River Roast will have their Rose & Oysters special during happy hour ($35) and also on their dinner menu ($50) throughout the month of October. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Lynn Sage Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s the perfect way to hang on to a taste of summer.
- But let’s also talk cocktails! One dollar of every Hot Mezz cocktail from Barrio will go to In Good Taste. This is a sip with a kick, made with sombra mezcal, watermelon, jalapeño, lime, and sage. Pair it with one of their salsas or some guacamole for a great after-work snack.
- Every Wednesday, “Ladies Night” starts at 8pm at Hubbard Inn, and will be a fun time for a good cause. One dollar from any entrée or specialty cocktail purchase during Ladies Night goes to In Good Taste.
- Also at Mon Ami Gabi, there will be specials like the “Lynn Royale” with Giuliana Prosecco, Briottet Crème de Cassis, and “Vie En Rose.” Cheers to a wonderful month ahead!
