Chicago bars and restaurants are gearing up for an exciting and delicious day in sports

Frontier

This weekend brings us “the most exciting two minutes in sports,” otherwise known as the Kentucky Derby. Whether you want to place a bet, you have a weakness for Mint Juleps, or you just want an excuse to dress up for some day drinking, Chicago is ready for a Saturday full of fun for the Derby! It might be tough to pick a winning horse on the major race day, but deciding where to watch the race certainly won’t be! Here are our favorite spots…

Bernie’s Chicago {660 North Orleans Street, Chicago; 312.624.9892}: Pray for patio weather this weekend because then you can spend Saturday on the Bernie’s rooftop! They will have Rabbit Hole Mint Juleps, Old Fashioneds, and Kentucky Mules all for $8 from 4-7pm to celebrate race day. We can’t imagine a more perfect day!

Mable’s Table {1655 West Cortland Street, Chicago; 773.904.7433}: This Bucktown spot will be offering a specialty Shaved Ice Mint Julep from Beverage Director Scott Foster. Start your day with their epic brunch items paired with this cool and tasty cocktail! No matter who you bet on, you’re sure to feel like a winner here.

Frontier {1072 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago; 773.772.4322}: If you’ve come to Frontier’s annual Kentucky Derby party before, you’ll know it’s an optimal celebration spot! This Saturday, their all-weather beer garden will have the race playing live, making it the perfect spot for a big group. There will be $8 Mint Juleps, Whiskey Sours, and Old Fashioneds, plus a $12 Fried Chicken Plate with sides.

Bub City {various locations}: Get your Southern attire and fancy hats ready! At both their locations in River North and Rosemont, you can enjoy the festivities all day long. Dig into Hot Brown Sandwiches alongside Mint Juleps and Mega Mint Julep drink specials and have some Derby fun with your pals! Bonus: there will be lots of Derby swag!

Gemini Chicago {2075 North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago; 773.525.2522}: Come for the $10 Mint Juleps, and stay for the race at the Gemini bar. This is the perfect spot for a day date!

The Hampton Social {various locations}: Get dressed up and have a girls’ day out at one of Hampton Social’s downtown or suburban locations for the Derby! Combine their picturesque décor with a gorgeous Rosé Mint Julep, and you’ve got a great day!

Public House {400 North State Street, Chicago; 312.265.1240}: You can watch the Derby from all different angles on the 27 televisions spaced throughout this 10,000-square-foot River North bar. Public House will be offering $10 Woodford Reserve Mint Juleps and Kentucky Mules, as well as $6 Stella Artois drafts for race day. Pair those with one of their Make-Your-Own Mac n’ Cheese dishes, and you’ve got a great day ahead!
