Soak up the sun (and even the surf!) as Chicago hot spots prepare for the weekend’s festvities

Aside from Lollapalooza, one of the biggest weekends for Chicago tourism, is the Air & Water Show, which will be taking the city by storm this weekend. The sun, the surf, and Chicago’s beach will take center stage…but don’t forget the food! Patios and rooftops will be prime positions, but restaurants and bars across the city are celebrating one of the biggest summer occasions with specials and weekend festivities…

The Signature Room at the 95th {John Hancock Center, 875 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago; 312.787.9596}: For a seat among the clouds themselves, the Signature Room is the place to be. You can still purchase exclusive all-day tickets that include reserved seating, a gourmet buffet, a premium bar package, and a bird’s-eye view of the Air & Water Show. Available on both Saturday, August 17, or Sunday, August 18, from 10am-3pm, this is the premiere event of the weekend, and allows you to enjoy the sights without all the crowds. You must be 21 years of age or older to attend and can still reserve your spot by calling 312.280.0465.

Z Bar {The Peninsula, 108 East Superior Street, Chicago; 312.573.6888}: If the beach isn’t your thing, you can still enjoy the “air” portion of the Air & Water Show thanks to The Peninsula’s rooftop bar. The beautiful and delicious cocktails, like the Sunday Spritz or Cozmo, will keep you refreshed as the planes zoom overhead.

The Windsor {160 East Huron Street, Chicago; 312.943.7777}: Just off the Mag Mile, The Windsor’s patio is the perfect retreat after a long day at the beach. Relax here with cocktails, and make it your meeting spot for the whole group! Any day that ends with a Manchego Burger or Lobster Roll is a good day indeed.

Castaways {1603 North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago; 773.281.1200}: Right along the beach, this favorite Chicago bar is celebrating all weekend long! There will be a viewing party on their rooftop deck, and the ever-popular pop-up Sand Bar Beer Garden is the only area on the beach where alcohol is officially permitted during the show. So you can drink and celebrate without worrying! You can also reserve tables or group tickets by calling 312.662.2500.

NoMI Garden {Park Hyatt Chicago, 800 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago; 312.239.4030}: Another gorgeous respite from the busy-ness of the weekend, the NoMI Garden at the Park Hyatt Hotel will allow you to watch the planes fly overhead while you relax. Dig in to treats like Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches or a Cookies & Candies Jar as you sit in the sun.
