Pretzels, beer and a whole lot of fall fun await at these German holiday festivities

Public House

Who says you have to go all the way to Germany in order to celebrate Oktoberfest? Not us! Chicago is a city known for its beer and comfort food, making it the perfect place to celebrate this fall tradition of fun. Several Chicago bars and restaurants are getting in on the Oktoberfest action this year, so we will save you the plane ticket and tell you where to head instead…

Politan Row {111 North Aberdeen Street, Chicago; 312.278.3040}: Instead of a German beer hall, head to the city’s new favorite food hall! They have plenty of amazing food options, plus Perle, their German-style beer garden housed on the patio. Perle features authentic draft beer, wine, and even a selection of kräuterlikörs that you can pair with food from vendors like Loud Mouth’s signature sausage sandwiches or Clave’s soul food.

Adams Street Brewery {17 West Adams Street, Chicago; 312.427.5820}: Combine classic German cuisine with Chicago’s latest brewery delights, and you’ve got the perfect Oktoberfest forecast! As part of the iconic Berghoff Restaurant, Adams Street Brewery is a wonderful spot to relax after a long day at the office or to bring out-of-town guests.

Bernie’s Chicago {600 North Orleans, Chicago; 312.624.9892}: Your favorite after work happy hour spot will have $7 On Tour Brewing Company’s latest Oktoberfest beer to celebrate this fall tradition. You can pair this seasonal sip with one of their standard (and still amazing) happy hour deals, which are offered seven days a week.

Public House {400 North State Street, Chicago; 312.265.1240}: Public House will be celebrating Oktoberfest all month long, showcasing their Oktoberfest Beer Menu which includes quintessential Oktoberfest lagers and pumpkin beers like Goose Island Oktoberfest, Revolution Oktoberfest, and Great Lakes Oktoberfest. Plus, every Wednesday, they will have special Oktoberfest events. This includes their annual “Tapping Pumpkins” night, featuring Schlafly Pumpkin Ale on Wednesday, Oct. 9. From 5 to 7pm, the gastropub will tap a pumpkin with the full-bodied beer inside, tasting similar to a pumpkin pie.

Funkenhausen {1709 West Chicago Avenue, Chicago; 312.929.4727}: For those who like their dinner with a side of funk, there’s no better place! Their German fare comes with flair and Southern twists like Ricotta Dumplings with haus kielbasa, cauliflower, and gooseberry.

Frontier {1072 North Milwaukee Avenue; 773.772.4322}: What pairs better with beer than some good old fashioned meat? The whole animal experiences at Frontier (think whole pigs, lamb or even alligator) will put the standard Oktoberfest celebration to shame!
