Filini Bar and Restaurant

Did you know that 93-percent of Americans have eaten pizza in the last month? Our only question is, what are the other 7-percent doing?! Pizza is practically a national pastime with different areas of the country putting their own unique twist on this classic Italian dish. Chicago is, of course, known for their pizza, so we also celebrate National Pizza Day like no one else. Mark your calendars, here are seven top spots you must try for the holiday.

Siena Tavern

No one knows pizza quite like Chef Fabio Viviani, and so Siena Tavern {51 West Kinzie Street, Chicago; 312.595.1322} is a no-brainer stop for National Pizza Day. For dinner, there are classics like the Margherita and Burnt Pepperoni, but you can also indulge at brunch with the Breakfast Pizza crafted with fireball pepperoni, house cured pancetta bacon, mozzarella, and a baked egg. Because pizza shouldn’t be relegated just to the evening meals!

Dolce Italian Chicago

Lunch lovers and happy hour devotees should make sure to stop by Dolce Italian {127 West Huron Street, Chicago; 312.754.0700} for the holiday. Their weekday lunch special allows you to choose a pasta, pizza or salad, and pair it with beer or wine for only $10. Of course you’ll choose pizza, because how could you resist their San Daniele pie? They also have more deals throughout happy hour from 5-7:30pm in the bar, and during the evening on Thursdays, diners can also purchase a bottle of wine for the price of a glass. Consider us convinced.

Labriola Ristorante and Cafe

Keep your eyes on the pies at Labriola Chicago {535 Michigan Avenue, Chicago; 312.955.3100}. Pull up a chair at the bar and make the toughest decision you’ll make all day: deep dish, thin crust or Neapolitan? Choose from one of their custom creations like Russo Sausage or the BBQ Pie, or make your own! They offer a wide range of toppings to keep any pizza lover happy.

Pranzi

Thin. Extra thin. Double dough. Gluten-free. Pan. Stuffed. No matter what your choice, Pranzi {434 West Ontario Street, Chicago; 312.944.4340} has you covered on the pizza front. They have signatures like the Melanzana with sausage, eggplant, tomatoes, mozzarella, and Romano cheeses, but you can also make your own pie. This is a great spot to take a large group because they have plenty of options for non-pizza fans including burgers, wraps, pasta, and more.

Riccardo Enoteca

Coming directly from Milan, Riccardo Enoteca {2116 North Clark Street, Chicago; 773.549.5010} has been serving up classic Italian small plates in Chicago for almost twenty years. Their traditional Milanese pizza comes topped with chopped asparagus, parma cotto ham, fontina, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheeses. Double down on the ‘za with their Pennoni Carbonara pasta with bacon, egg yolk, pecorino, and Parmesan cheese for a truly indulgent meal.

Oggi Trattoria

When a restaurant has an entire menu devoted to pizza, you know they mean business. Oggi Trattoria {1118 West Grand Avenue, Chicago; 312.733.0442} offers pizza “in-da-pan” as well as stuffed, but it’s always homemade. Add creative proteins like shrimp, Canadian bacon or roast beef, or go for veggies with toppings including capers, eggplant, and mushroom. There’s something for everyone!

Filini

For those in Chicago on business who still want to celebrate visit the Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel {221 North Columbus Drive, Chicago; 312.565.5258}. Their upscale and sleek Italian eatery, Filini Bar and Restaurant has a not-to-miss deal. On Thursday, guests who order a pizza and mention National Pizza Day will receive a complimentary bottle of house wine. The offer is only available for parties of two or more people, so bring a group and dig in.
