Spring is heating up, and so is the spirit of culinary competition in Chicago. Next week, two heavy-hitting Windy City chefs will go head to head for a delicious contest your taste buds won’t want to miss.
West Town staple TWO will face off against River North newcomer Bernie’s Lunch & Supper, in their fourth Seasonal Slam event.
The event, which will take place at TWO {1132 West Grand Avenue; 312.624.8363} on April 17 at 5pm, pins TWO Executive Chef Kevin Cuddihee and Beverage Director Graham Crowe against Executive Chef Ryan Sand and Lead Bartender Brian Johnson of Bernie’s Lunch & Supper {660 North Orleans Street; 312.624.9892} in a three-round culinary challenge.

Entering the ring this spring is Chef Kevin Cuddihee, who has been with TWO since 2012, and focuses on producing an ever-changing menu with true Midwestern heart. He infuses his dishes with urban finesse, focusing on creativity with seasonal ingredients.
In the other corner is Chef Ryan Sand, partner with Peas & Carrots Hospitality Group and another Illinois native. He perfected his craft at the Culinary Institute of America and under chefs like Thomas Keller at Bouchon Bakery.

Both restaurants will present three dishes and three cocktails, each with a specialty seasonal ingredient. Guests will blind test each round’s corresponding dish and drink and place their vote for that round’s winner. The restaurant with the most rounds won will be crowned champion of the night.

“Seasonal Slam is a great opportunity for our guests to taste food from another chef, and cocktails from a new mixologist, as well as talk about food with fellow diners,” says TWO Chef Kevin Cuddihee.
The ingredients, which have been chosen by Plate Magazine’s Managing Editor Liz Grossman, will be peas, beets, and dandelion greens. It’s like Chopped, but on Chicago culinary steroids!

“I’ve never participated in an event like this before, but I love the idea of collaborating with another Chicago restaurant for a little friendly competition. I am excited to see what Chef Kevin has in store for the night,” says Bernie’s Lunch & Supper Chef Ryan Sand.
